A man has been detained at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport while attempting to smuggle yaba pills in his stomach, according to the Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn).

Authorities are preparing to file a case against the detainee at the Airport Police Station, the APBn said in a statement on Friday.

The detained passenger has been identified as 60-year-old Hoson Ahmed.

Additional Superintendent Rakib Hasan Bhuiyan of Airport APBn said Hoson came to Dhaka on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Cox's Bazar. Based on a tip-off, APBn members apprehended him from the northern side of the Balaka Bhaban.

Later, he was taken to the Kurmitola Hospital and a total of 2,820 yaba tablets were retrieved from his body.

"There has been a rise in the number of incidents where airports are used for smuggling drugs. We are working to curb criminal activities surrounding airports," said Anita Rani Sutradhar, another additional superintendent of Airport APBn.
