A Dhaka court has granted police eight days to grill top criminal Subrata Bain in custody in a case filed under the Arms Act.
His three alleged associates, including Abu Rasel Masud alias Molla Masud, were remanded for six days on the same charges by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain on Wednesday.
The two other accused are Arafat Ibn Nasir alias, Shooter Arafat and MAS Sharif.
Magistrate Zakir issued the order after hearing a petition by the Hatirjheel police.
The investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Riyad Ahmed of Hatirjheel police, sought 10-day custody for all four accused.
According to the petition, after serving sentences in various cases, Subrata was released from prison after the July Uprising on Aug 5, and he went on to resume his criminal activities.
Opposing his bail, Riyad argued that Subrata posed a flight risk if released.
On Tuesday, during a special operation of the Bangladesh Army in Kushtia, Subrata, also known as Fateh Ali, and his close associate Masud were arrested.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Subrata and Masud are leaders of the 'Seven Star' crime syndicate. They are among the 23 most wanted criminals on the government’s list.
