A man has allegedly been hacked to death by his brothers over a land dispute in Chattogram.

The incident occurred at Raozan Upazila on Tuesday, police said.

The deceased was Nurul Alam Bakul, 41.

Raozan police chief Monirul Islam Bhuiyan said the brothers had been in a dispute over property for several years.

"The brothers had a family meeting in the afternoon during the Eid break. At one stage, Bakul was beaten and hacked with a sharp weapon by his other siblings."

He was taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, the OC said.

“We have received no complaints so far and didn't find anyone at the house. The weapon used in the attack was found there," he added.

Meanwhile, another person reportedly died in a “row” over a boundary dispute in the city's North Kattali region.

Akbar Shah Police Station chief Md Kamruzzaman said they had received two separate accounts of the death of the victim -- Shyamal Chowdhury, 60.

He said that Shyamal’s family had an argument with their neighbours over the demarcation of the house. He fell ill at that time and died after being taken to a hospital.

"One party says Shyamal was beaten up and the other says he fell ill during the scuffle.

"We are investigating the matter. An autopsy report is needed to ascertain how Shyamal died.”
