A Natore court has sentenced a madrasa teacher to life in prison for the rape of his student in Natore’s Boraigram.
Judge Muhammad Abdur Rahim of the Natore Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal delivered the verdict in the case on Wednesday in the presence of the convict, according to Md Abdul Kader Mia, the court’s public prosecutor.
The convict was identified as 25-year-old Md Abdur Rahim from the Kathalbaria area. He worked at a madrasa in Boraigram.
In addition to the prison sentence, Rahim was also fined Tk 50,000 by the court.
On May 18, 2021, Rahim went to the student’s house, Kader said, citing the case files. There he informed him of some urgent work before taking him to the second floor of the mosque next to the madrasa. There, he raped the child.
When the child became ill, his family rushed him to Boraigram Upazila Health Complex. When the incident came to light, the child’s father filed a case over the incident at Boraigram Police Station.
Police arrested Rahim on May 21 that same year.
On Jun 30, 2018, Sub Inspector Md Abdul Jabbar Ali filed the chargesheet against Rahim and the trial against him started.
State lawyer Kader said the fine in the case would be transferred to the victim.
