Doctors have found "evidence of rape" during an examination of a six-year-old child who was allegedly sexually assaulted in the capital's Khilkhet area.

On Wednesday, Sabina Yasmin, coordinator of the One Stop Crisis Centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said that a forensic exam of the child revealed "preliminary signs" of rape.

Meanwhile, the condition of the teenager accused of the crime remains critical after he was brutally beaten by a mob.

The 14-year-old suspect was arrested by the police on Tuesday night following the rape allegations.

Shortly after the arrest, however, an enraged crowd snatched the suspect out of a police vehicle and subjected him to a severe beating.

During the incident, six police officers were injured and the police vehicle was damaged.

Two separate cases have been filed in connection with the incident -- one involving rape charges and another for the attack on the police.

Khilkhet Police Station chief Kamal Hossain said that both the assaulted child and the injured suspect were taken to DMCH.

Three of the injured policemen are also receiving treatment at the hospital, though doctors have confirmed that they are now out of danger.

Addressing the teenage suspect's condition, Shishir Kumar Ghosh, a medical officer at DMCH, said that while his condition was stable, he was still not out of danger. He suffered multiple injuries, including to the head.
