Remaining dialogue after Eid-ul-Fitr, says Consensus Commission

Four other political parties have submitted their feedback to the National Consensus Commission on the recommendations made by the reform panels.

A total of 20 parties, including the four who made the submission on Sunday, have provided their views so far.

The Consensus Commission, on the other hand, has so far held talks with four political parties.

It said in a statement that there would be no dialogue before the Eid-ul-Fitr.

After Eid, the commission will resume talks with the rest of the parties in phases.

After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina regime on Aug 5 last year, the interim government headed by Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus took over and formed 11 reform commissions to drive state reform initiatives.

Meanwhile, six commissions established for the constitutional, electoral, Anti-Corruption Commission, judiciary, public administration, and police reforms have submitted their reports with their recommendations.

Later, two more panels submitted their reports.

In the first phase, the recommendations were sent to 38 political parties in a spreadsheet.

The commission requested the parties to provide their views on these recommendations by Mar 13. Four parties had met the deadline.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the National Citizen Party (NCP), the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), and the Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal–BaSaD (Marxist) gave their opinions on Sunday.

The parties that submitted feedback so far are the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Khelafat Majlish, Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam Bangladesh, Zaker Party, Bhasani Followers Council, Nationalist Democratic Movement (NDM), Aam Janatar Dal, or People’s Party, Rastro Songskar Andolan, or State Reform Movement, Bangladesh Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD), Bangladesh Labour Party, Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party), and Nagorik Oikya, or Citizens’ Unity.

According to the statement, the Consensus Commission launched the dialogue from Mar 20 to finalise the recommendations made by the reform panels.

So far, the commission has held talks with the LDP, Khelafat Majlish, Bangladesh Labour Party, and State Reform Movement.

A BNP delegation, led by its Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, went to the parliament building in the capital’s Sher-E-Bangla Nagar in the afternoon.

At the LD Hall, they submitted their views to the commission's Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz.

Later, the party submitted its feedback on the reform proposal to the Consensus Commission headed by NCP Joint Convenor Sarwar Tushar.

Two other delegations submitted their views to the commission, led by CPB General Secretary Ruhin Hossain Prince and BaSaD (Marxist) central executive forum coordinator Masud Rana.

Earlier in the morning, a delegation led by State Reform Movement's Chief Coordinator Hasnat Qayyum took part in the discussion aiming to build consensus on the reform issue.
