The government has announced that advance train tickets for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr will be available from Mar 14.
Speaking after a meeting on road discipline during Eid travel at Bidyut Bhaban in Dhaka on Sunday, Railways Advisor Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan said ticket sales would begin that day.
All tickets will be sold online this year.
Tickets for Mar 24 will be released on Mar 14, followed by Mar 25 on Mar 15, Mar 26 on Mar 16, Mar 27on Mar 17, Mar 28 on Mar 18, Mar 29 on Mar 19, and Mar 30 on Mar 20.
To ease Eid travel, five special trains will operate: Chandpur Eid Special on the Chattogram-Chandpur route, Dewanganj Eid Special on the Dhaka-Dewanganj route, Sholakia Eid Special on the Bhairab Bazar-Kishoreganj route, another Sholakia Eid Special on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj route, and Parbatipur Eid Special on the Joydebpur-Parbatipur route.
An additional 40 coaches will be added to trains during the Eid rush.
Each passenger can buy one round-trip ticket online, purchasing up to four tickets per transaction.
Up to 25 percent of total seats will be sold as standing tickets on the travel day.
Tickets for Mar 31, Apr 1, and Apr 2 will be sold based on the moon sighting.
Return tickets will be available from Mar 28, starting with tickets for Apr 3.
Tickets for Apr 4 will be sold on Mar 25, Apr 5 on Mar 26, Apr 6 on Mar 27, Apr 7 on Mar 28, Apr 8 on Mar 29, and Apr 9 on Mar 30.
From Mar 27 until the day before Eid, all weekly breaks for intercity trains will be suspended.
