Police have arrested five people following a Mujibnagar Day rally at Bahaddarhat intersection in Chattogram.
The arrestees include four members of Awami League’s student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League, said Chandgaon Police Station chief Md Aftab Uddin.
The arrests took place on Thursday morning immediately after the rally, according to him.
The detainees have been identified as Didarul Alam, 43, Aris Uddin Nuru, 29, Shahed, 28, Juwel, 26, and Sumon, 25. All of them are residents of areas under the police station.
Videos circulating on social media show rally participants carrying banners featuring Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s photo and chanting slogans such as “Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu.”
The banners also displayed the name of Mohammad Hanif, a leader of the party’s youth front Jubo League.
Police say a case has been filed against the arrestees under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The charges include conspiring against the government, spreading misinformation, causing harm to the state, and engaging in anti-state and terrorist activities.
