The Ministry of Education has cancelled a directive on reserving a 5 percent quota in government school admissions for family members of those injured or killed in the July Uprising.

In the fresh order published by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education on Monday, the ministry said one additional seat will be reserved for admission in each class beyond the determined number of seats.

One additional seat will be reserved in each class along with the seats allocated through lottery for admissions to government schools for family members of those injured and killed in the July Uprising, according to the order.

It will only be applicable for the 2025 academic year.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

• In case seats are allocated to family members of the injured and martyred, a certified copy of the relevant certificate or gazette must be attached to the application form, and the original copy must be presented at the time of admission.

• The concerned person must properly verify the July Uprising victims’ gazette issued by the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs and complete the admission process.

• If the injured or martyred family members of the Uprising are not available, the seat must be filled according to the merit list. Under no circumstances can the seat remain vacant.

Earlier, in an order issued on Feb 20, the education ministry had said 5 percent of the total seats would be reserved for the children of the brave freedom fighters and family members of the victims of the Uprising in government secondary schools.
