A Dhaka court has banned six people, including businessman Md Saiful Alam’s grandson Arif Ahmed Soni, Zeil Wears Limited Chairman Zahir Uddin Tarik, and Managing Director Jashim Md Al Amin from travelling out of Bangladesh.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the orders on Monday in response to three separate applications from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), the agency’s spokesperson Akhtarul Islam confirmed.

Arif is identified as the deputy general manager (DGM) of the controversial S Alam Group.

The court also blocks overseas travel for Zafar Ahmed, his son Riyad Ahsan, and Mehedi Hasan, an individual associated with the Orion Group.

The ACC has alleged that Tarik and Al Amin are attempting to flee the country, which would obstruct efforts to recover funds they are accused of laundering.

In a separate application, ACC Assistant Director Naushad Ali said Arif and others are trying to flee abroad and transfer their movable and immovable assets.

The agency’s Deputy Director Rashedul Islam sought a travel ban on Mehedi, citing that Orion Group Chairman Obaidul Karim and other associated persons are also attempting to leave the country.
