In the latest round of forced crossings into Bangladesh, the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has reportedly pushed in 17 individuals, including women and children, through the border in Thakurgaon's Haripur Upazila.
“Around 5am on Saturday, 12 women and five children were pushed in across the Upazila’s Chapsa BOP [border outpost] border zone,” Haripur Police Station chief Zakaria Mondal said.
Later, a Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) patrol team from Chapsa BOP took them into custody, he added.
The officer said all the detainees are Bangladeshi citizens, and a case was being prepared over the matter.
Over the past several days, the BSF has allegedly been pushing people in through different points of the Bangladesh border.
Officer Zakaria said, “The BGB has already handed them [people forced across on Saturday] over to the police.”
