Education Advisor Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar has said suitable vice-chancellors (VCs) will be appointed for universities through advertisements in newspapers.

He said, “After taking charge, I have formed a vice chancellor selection panel for appointment in two universities.

“The VC will be appointed by advertising in newspapers and accepting applications from interested parties.

“We have formed a search committee comprising representatives from the ministry, the UGC, and distinguished professors.

“If we can complete the process of appointing a VC based on merit and open competition, we will be able to move forward toward a dream that the next generation will be able to lead the world while remaining rooted in Bangladesh.”

His ministry in a media statement said the advisor spoke at a view-exchange meeting with journalists on Wednesday.

There, he discussed several issues including VC appointments and the new year’s textbooks.

Abrar said, “Due to time constraints, the 2026 books will be printed according to the current year’s curriculum. Initiatives have been taken to correct the mistakes and ensure that students receive textbooks by the beginning of next year.

“I am hopeful that the NCTB will successfully fulfil this important responsibility.”

Highlighting the government’s recent Tk 20 billion bond and Tk 2 billion cash allocation to increase the benefits of retired private sector teachers, he said: “This is a major step in resolving the problems of the concerned teachers.”
