Praying to Allah for the peace and security of people across the world, Khatib Mufti Muhammad Abdul Malek of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, said at the Eid congregation: “Please give the people peace. Save them from the persecution of oppressors.”

Bangladesh is celebrating Eid-ul-Azha on Saturday. Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus was among those who took part in the main Eid congregation at the National Eidgah grounds adjacent to the High Court in Dhaka.

Malek led the prayers, saying: “Oh Allah, accept our sacrifice. Forgive us all. Forgive us our sins.”

Asking for the recovery of the sick, he said: “May the wishes of all be fulfilled. May everyone’s troubles be banished.”

He also wished for the good health of the interim government advisors, saying: “These elders are working for the country. Accept their work for the greater good and keep them safe.”

Malek also wished for the liberation of the oppressed people of Palestine.

“Save them from the persecution of the oppressor,” he said. “Save them from oppression and protect everyone.”

As the weather stayed dry on Saturday morning, prayers were held at the grounds at 7:30am, led by Malek.

The Dhaka South City Corporation had made arrangements for some 35,000 people to take part in the congregation simultaneously.
