BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has urged the party’s online activists to stay alert in the face of rising “conspiracies” against democracy and nationalism.
Speaking virtually at an Iftar event hosted by nationalist online activists in Dhaka’s Gulshan on Monday, he emphasised the importance of unity and vigilance.
Tarique said, "We, as political activists, have been saying for a while now that a conspiracy against the country and its people is unfolding again. The conspiracy against Bangladesh’s democracy is taking shape once more."
He warned that the conspirators were targeting the foundations of the nation’s democracy and sovereignty.
Addressing online activists, Tarique appealed for heightened awareness.
"Those of you who are activists, I am sure you understand the situation. I ask, I urge you... disagreements may exist, but right now, the BNP needs your support more than ever," he said.
He also said a particular group was conspiring against the BNP and Bangladesh’s nationalist forces, while also undermining the country’s independence and sovereignty.
Tarique pointed out that certain media outlets were involved in this conspiracy, drawing a parallel to the media trials the BNP faced during the One Eleven, the 2007 political crisis.
He also highlighted the BNP’s past contributions to the country’s reform efforts.
He said, "Whenever the BNP has had the opportunity to govern, we have contributed the most in every sector, from health to agriculture, education to food production, and employment."
Revisiting BNP's reform initiative, he said: “Our intentions have always been good, which is why two and a half years ago, we proposed the 31-point reform plan."
The event also featured a screening of a documentary on the BNP’s 31-point reform proposal.
In the same context, BNP Secretary-General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said: “We must once again fight that battle. The conspiracy has begun, and our warriors will prevail in this struggle.”
