Garments workers have called off a road blockade in Dhaka’s Banani several hours after a female colleague was killed in a road accident in the area.

The protesters cleared the road around 1:50pm on Monday.

Around 2pm, Traffic Gulshan Division Deputy Commissioner Mofizul Islam said: “The garments workers called off their blockade around 1:50pm. Now the traffic has begun to move along all routes.”

A garment worker was killed and another injured in an accident near the Chairman Bari U-Turn in Banani at 6am.

The deceased worker’s colleagues then blocked Airport Road and halted traffic on the Dhaka Elevated Expressway in protest. The blockade led to heavy traffic congestion on nearby roads, causing difficulties for the capital’s commuters.
