Police have taken former Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Selina Hayat Ivy to Kashimpur Women's Central Jail in Gazipur following a court order.
She was brought to the jail around 2pm on Friday, said Senior Jail Superintendent Kawalin Nahar.
On Friday afternoon, she said: "Selina Hayat Ivy has been brought to Kashimpur Women's Central Jail. I cannot give any further details. All I can say is that she has been brought to our jail."
"We need to do some processing, those are being carried out," said the jail official.
Earlier, Ivy was shown arrested in the murder case of garment worker Minarul in Narayanganj's Shiddhirganj during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.
She was then presented to the court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Moinuddin Kadir at 10am on Friday and the judge issued an order to send her to jail, said Inspector Qayum Khan of court police.
"Police have not filed any remand petition against Ivy. Also, no bail plea has been filed either. When she was presented to the court, it ordered the authorities to send her to jail," the officer said.
On Thursday, a team of police from Sadar Model Police Station went to Ivy's ancestral home "Chunka Kutir" around 11:30pm.
Thousands of locals took to the streets at night after they heard of the police raid. They chanted slogans saying they would not allow Ivy to be arrested in the "dead of night."
After six hours of waiting, three-time Narayanganj City Corporation mayor Ivy left her Deobhog home at 5:45am and got on a police vehicle voluntarily.
Thousands of people chanted slogans supporting Ivy as she was taken away. They remained outside her home until the morning.
