Fearing clashes, Section 144 has been imposed at the Eidgah ground in Mymensingh’s Gafargaon Upazila.

Section 144 is a section of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which prohibits assembly of five or more people, holding of public meetings, and carrying of firearms.

Upazila executive officer (UNO) NM Abdullah-Al-Mamun said it was imposed at the Lamkain Eidgah ground in Panchbagh Union from 6pm on Sunday to 6pm on Monday.

The notification issued by the Upazila administration said an extremely tense situation prevails in the area due to Eid prayers being offered by multiple parties at the Lamkain Eidgah ground.

As a result, there is a fear of a severe deterioration in law and order.

Amid rising tensions, Section 144 has been imposed to maintain law and order.

The notification says carrying and displaying firearms, sticks, local weapons, fireworks, crackers, using miking or sound equipment, walking together, meetings, processions, etc. will be prohibited.
