A brief respite from the scorching summer heat will likely be disrupted by a fresh spell of heatwave in parts of Bangladesh starting Thursday, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecasts.
The Met Office predicted showers to simmer down the heat in the week to follow with rain on the cards starting May 12.
The hot spell is expected to persist for two to three days, according to meteorologist Kazi Zebunnesa.
"Rain is expected from the 12th or 13th of the month. The temperatures will drop then,” she told bdnews24.com on Tuesday.
“But from Thursday, there is a possibility of mild to moderate heatwave in some areas for a few days.”
The regular bulletin projected occasional gusty winds with lightning, rain, or thundershowers may occur in one or two places across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions over the next 24 hours from 6pm Tuesday.
Until 6pm Tuesday, the highest rainfall was recorded in Khulna’s Koyra, 41mm.
Other parts of the country also saw varying amounts of rainfall.
Daytime temperatures are expected to edge up slightly over the next 24 hours while the mercury is likely to remain stable at night.
The highest temperature in the country until 6pm Tuesday was 36.5°C in Sirajganj’s Baghabari, while Dhaka logged a maximum of 34.4°C.
