Bangladesh’s interim prime minister has praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for agreeing to a ceasefire instead of prolonging the conflict.
In a statement on Saturday, the chief advisor also thanked US President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for mediating the truce.
He said Bangladesh will continue to support our two neighbours to resolve differences through diplomacy.
Tensions had soared between India and Pakistan following a terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Apr 22.
Both countries carried out missile and drone strikes over the next four days, prompting fears of a full-scale war.
From 5pm on Saturday, both sides agreed to halt attacks, putting an “apparent end” to what had become one of the most intense conflicts between the two in decades.
The first confirmation came from Trump, who wrote on his social media platform Truth Social: “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that a full and immediate ceasefire.”
Following Trump’s statement, the foreign ministries of both India and Pakistan confirmed the ceasefire agreement.
