Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has called for establishment of a society where there will be no more unclaimed bodies.

Speaking at the inauguration of a building of Anjuman Mufidul Islam in Dhaka’s Kakrail on Monday, he said: "We want a society where there will be no unclaimed bodies. That's ‘our’ goal as well."

Noting “Anjuman Mufidul Islam” as a unique institution for the burial of unclaimed bodies, Yunus said: "If they weren't there, we wouldn't know what happened to these bodies. Now we know they were given a dignified burial as they are there.

"I am very happy to be here. I've been hearing the name since childhood. A strange name and I didn't know any explanation, I just knew unclaimed bodies."

"I heard the word 'unclaimed' with corpses and from the activities of Anjuman Mufidul Islam. I never knew who they were, but I witnessed it today.

"It seems the organisation emerges from a world and picks up if there is any dead body. It's a dreamy thing. No matter how remote and how difficult the situation is, the name of Anjuman Mufidul Islam comes."

Yunus said, "I was very surprised. I didn’t know who it was, but it's making headlines every day. Later I heard it works all over the country.

"I have never seen any of their statements in any newspaper and don't know whether they gave any speech, but I didn't notice that they are taking any credit for this work.”

He continued, "This name has come into the limelight during the coronavirus pandemic. So I see they are all around me. As soon as I got acquainted, I saw that many big people were involved in it from birth. I didn't even know it was founded in 1905.

“It was nice to see the organisation’s volunteers today. They are involved in other activities as well besides burying bodies."
