When will the heatwave ease? Here’s what the weather forecast says

A day after a heatwave began blowing through four districts in Bangladesh, it has spread to 20 more.

A total of 24 districts in the country are expected to experience searing heat until Sunday, after which temperatures are expected to cool off.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) made the predictions in its forecast on Wednesday.

Tuesday saw mild heatwaves sweep over Rajshahi, Pabna, Jashore and Chuadanga.

But according to the Met Office’s Wednesday bulletin, eight districts in the Rajshahi Division and another 10 in the Khulna Division, as well as the Manikganj, Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalganj, Dinajpur, and Nilphamari districts are seeing mild to moderate heatwaves.

Meteorologist Omar Faruk said, “It will be like this until Apr 26-27. After that there will be more rain and the temperature will ease.

On Wednesday, Jashore recorded the highest temperature of 39.8 degrees Celsius. Dhaka saw a high of 35.6 degrees Celsius.

A mild heatwave occurs when the temperature rises to between 36-38 degrees Celsius. Temperatures of 38 to 40 degrees Celsius are considered a moderate heatwave, 40 to 42 degrees Celsius is a severe heatwave, and above 42 degrees, it is a very severe one.

There may be occasional gusty winds accompanied by lightning, rain or thunderstorms in some parts of the Sylhet Division and one or two places in the Mymensingh and Chattogram divisions over the 24 hours from 6 pm on Wednesday.

In addition, other parts of the country may see occasional partially cloudy skies. However, the weather across the country is likely to remain largely dry.

The highest rainfall in the country till 6pm on Wednesday was 59mm in Sylhet. In addition, there was scattered rain in a couple of other places in the country.

The forecast indicates that the day and night temperatures across the country will remain almost unchanged over the next 24 hours.
