A complaint has been filed at a Dhaka tribunal against Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nazmus Sakib, accusing him of rape on the false pretext of marriage.
It was made on Tuesday by a bank officer at the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8, presided over by Judge Shawkat Ali.
According to the complainant’s lawyer, the bank officer appeared before the tribunal and submitted her petition. The judge recorded her statement and instructed Shahbagh Police Station to treat the allegation as a First Information Report (FIR).
According to the case details, on Jun 19, 2023, Sakib posted to a Facebook group named “Patro-Patri Dujonei Hobe Dhabian”, or Both Bride and Groom Must Be Dhaka University Graduates, looking for a bride.
According to the complaint, ASP Sakib became acquainted with the woman through a social media post, which led to a relationship between them.
The woman alleges that Sakib concealed the fact that he was already married and had a child, all while making repeated promises of marriage.
She claims the two later entered into a physical relationship, which continued until she discovered his existing marriage.
When she confronted him, he refused to marry her and allegedly made death threats if she planned to take legal action.
