Man holds knife to child’s throat, ‘attempts to rape’ mother in Jashore

Authorities have arrested a man accused of breaking into a home and threatening a four-year-old girl with a knife while attempting to “rape” her mother in Jashore.

The incident occurred in the Birampur area on the town's outskirts around 11:30pm on Sunday.

The accused, 18-year-old Hasan Ali, was arrested two and a half hours after the filing of the case, according to Kazi Babul Hasan, chief of Jashore Kotwali Police Station.

The victim’s father said that Hasan, a neighbour and a friend of his younger son, gained entry to the house alongside his accomplices on the pretext of charging his phone.

Once inside, he allegedly threatened the woman’s child by putting a knife to her throat and attempted to “sexually assault” her.

“When my daughter screamed, Hasan and his accomplices stabbed both her and my granddaughter before fleeing,” the father said.

The mother and daughter were later rescued and admitted to Jashore General Hospital for treatment.

Police recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack during Hasan’s arrest.
