A man has received bullet injuries in a reported gunfight between a group of kidnappers and joint forces in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf Upazila, according to police.

The injured, 27-year-old Md Rafiq, is a resident of the Upazila’s Harangkhali village.

The incident occurred in the Upazila’s Huaikong West Moheshkhalipara around 7pm on Monday.

Teknaf Police Station chief Mohammad Gias Uddin claimed that Rafiq was a member of the gang.

The OC said, "A joint forces team conducted a drive upon information that a group of kidnappers was loitering in the area in the evening. After reaching there, the kidnappers opened fire at the joint forces.

“At one stage, the joint forces members fired back and Rafiq was shot in the incident. He was later sent to a hospital.”

Rafiq, who sustained bullet injuries on his right hand, has been named in several abduction cases at the police station, he added.
