The BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has spoken to the family members of the child who was allegedly raped in Magura while visiting her sister’s house.
During a phone call with the victim’s mother on Saturday afternoon, he pledged his support for the child's treatment and vowed to ensure justice.
He also ordered party leaders to stand by the family in this crisis.
The child was in critical condition and was transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital, or DMCH, to the Combined Military Hospital, or CMH, in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier, Tarique spoke with the child’s mother, who was at DMCH, through the phone of Rabiul Islam Nayan, member secretary of Jubo Dal’s Dhaka South unit.
During the call, the mother told the acting chairman that her daughter was in critical condition and was receiving a blood transfusion.
Tarique was heard saying, “I have instructed our party members in the area to stand by the child’s family. Nayan is there, and I have also asked our leaders in Magura to support them so that the child gets justice.
“Those who have wronged her must be punished. We will do our best from our position and make every possible effort to ensure that you receive justice under the country’s laws.”
He told the child’s mother, “I have asked Nayan to ensure that all necessary arrangements are made for the child's treatment. Don’t worry, we are here for you, and the people of the country stand with you.”
In tears, the mother said: “If you could see what has happened to my little girl. Please pray that I get my daughter back, and those responsible for this act are punished.”
Later, BNP Standing Committee member Selima Rahman, along with central leaders Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Rafiqul Islam, and Nipun Roy Chowdhury, visited the child at DMCH.
