Three people, including a woman and her daughter, have been killed after a covered van ploughed into a motorcycle in Pabna’s Ishurdi Upazila.
The accident occurred around 8am on Wednesday on the Dashuria-Kushtia Highway in Salimpur's Munnar Mor area, said Inspector Mushfiqur Rahman of Pakshi Highway Police Station.
The dead have been identified as Suborna Khatun and her 8-year-old daughter Purnata, who hailed from Natore’s Sadar Upazila, and local resident Anisur Rahman.
Suborna’s husband Mofizul Islam was critically injured in the accident and has been admitted to the Ishurdi Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Citing locals, Inspector Mushfiqur said: “Retired BGB member Mofizul Islam was returning home to Natore with his family after a visit to his in-laws’ house in Kushtia. He stopped his motorcycle on the side of the road in Ishurdi’s Munnar Mor area to buy some lychees. A speeding covered van rammed the three of them and the lychee vendor before fleeing.”
“Locals rescued Mofizul and reported the incident to the Fire Service. Fire Service personnel then came and took Mofizul to the Ishurdi Upazila Health Complex.”
By then, lychee vendor Anisur, Suborna, and Purnata had died, he added.
Sub-Inspector Kallol of the Pakshi Highway Police Outpost said: “We went to the scene of the accident and found three people dead. Their bodies have been taken to the Ishurdi Upazila Health Complex.”
