The government has appointed an administrator to form “Dhaka Central University” by merging seven government colleges in Dhaka.

Prof AKM Elias, principal of Dhaka College, has been appointed administrator of the proposed university, according to a notification from the education ministry on Sunday.

Here is a refined version of the sentence:

On Monday, Senior Assistant Secretary at the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education ASM Kashem told bdnews24.com that the principal of Dhaka College has been assigned the role of administrator as an additional duty alongside his current post.

Elias recently retired as principal of Dhaka College but was reappointed on Sunday, coinciding with a student movement by seven colleges demanding an interim administration before Dhaka Central University’s institutional structure is formed.

He will receive additional duty allowance and serve as the administrator until the end of his contract as the Dhaka College principal.

In view of a students’ movement, the colleges were announced to be freed from the affiliation of Dhaka University on Jan 27.

On Mar 16, the announcement was made to transform the colleges into independent universities under the name Dhaka Central University.

In response to the students' demands, initiatives were taken to transform the seven colleges into independent institutional structures or universities.

A committee formed under the leadership of the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) is formulating the outline of Dhaka Central University.

Before forming the institutional structure, the UGC proposed the formation of an interim administration led by a principal to take charge of the colleges.

With the process pending for two months, students of the seven colleges threatened to resume their movement on Friday.

At a press conference on Saturday, they set a Sunday deadline to form an interim administration. The education ministry appointed the administrator that same day.
