Launch Starlink in Bangladesh within 90 days, instructs Chief Advisor Yunus

Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has ordered the commercial launch of Starlink's satellite broadband internet service in Bangladesh within 90 days.

A press release issued by the Chief Advisor’s Office on Tuesday said that while Starlink will use its foreign satellite broadband gateway for test broadcasting, it will use the local broadband gateway or IIG (International Internet Gateway) in accordance with the NGSO (Non-Geostationary Orbit) policy while providing commercial services in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun said on Sunday that Starlink would conduct a test run in Bangladesh on Apr 9.

He said that the InterContinental Dhaka hotel will be under Starlink's coverage during the opening ceremony of the International Investment Conference.

“We are working with many organisations on Starlink,” he said.

“We will use Starlink on the ninth [Apr 9]... That will be a test day or demo day for us.”

The Dhaka International Investment Conference, scheduled from Apr 7 to Apr 10, aims to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) to Bangladesh.

Although the conference will commence two days earlier, its formal inauguration is set for Apr 9, with Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus presiding over the ceremony.

Harun said the event would spotlight investment prospects in five key sectors: renewable energy, the digital economy, garments and textiles, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, and agro-processing.
