A court has issued a travel ban on former education minister Nurul Islam Nahid and his wife KU Johra Jesmin.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib issued the order on Monday following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission, or ACC.

In its application, the ACC said multiple corruption allegations against the former education minister are under investigation.

“It has been reported that Nahid and his wife may flee the country. Therefore, it is necessary to ban them from travelling abroad for the sake of a fair investigation into the allegations,” the application mentioned.

The court has also banned Bangladesh Hockey Federation Vice-President Abdur Rashid Sikder, Public Works Sub-Divisional Engineer Sanjay Halder and his wife Anika Ghosh from leaving the country on a separate ACC plea.

The application said Rashid is being investigated for alleged looting, land grabbing, and illegal sand mining from the Padma River, and there are concerns he may flee the country.

Regarding Sanjay and his wife, the anti-graft agency plea mentions they are also under investigation for corruption, and it has been learnt that they are attempting to flee the country.
