The interim government has formed a committee to review and recommend changes to the quota system in public service recruitment.

A notification issued on Tuesday announced the formation of the committee, with the additional secretary of the Rules Division under the Ministry of Public Administration as its convenor.

The notification asked the 11-member committee to submit a report to the government within 30 working days.

The committee has also been tasked with reviewing the existing rules for reserving a five percent quota for children of freedom fighters, martyred freedom fighters, and Liberation War heroine (Birangana), one percent for ethnic minorities, and one percent for the physically challenged and third gender in government service recruitment and formulating recommendations.

The quota reform protest later evolved into a movement to overthrow the government.

During the interim government, various changes were introduced as part of state reforms.

As part of this process, a committee was formed to review the existing quota system.

This committee, formed under the leadership of the additional secretary (Rules Sub-Division) of the public administration ministry, will have the deputy secretary (Rules-1) as its member secretary.

The committee will consist of one officer each from the Chief Advisor's Office (CAO), Cabinet Division, Finance Division, Ministry of Social Welfare, Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs, Health Services Division, Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, Public Service Commission, and Ministry of Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs.

The committee can co-opt more members if necessary.
