New machinery eases Haor rice harvesting

Farmers in Haor areas are harvesting their crops before the rains come. Amid scorching heat and intense sunshine, they have nearly completed harvesting 100 percent of the Boro paddy. Harvester and reaper machinery have eased the huge workload across a wide stretch of Kishoreganj. With 700 of these machines and the help of 30,000 seasonal workers, the crops have been harvested properly, putting a smile on farmers’ faces.

One hundred percent of the Boro crop in large Haors like Itna, Mithamain, Ashtagram, Bajitpur, Nikli and Tarail in Kishoreganj have already been harvested. Farmers started reaping the crop this year before rain and water could damage it.

Farmers have started harvesting the Boro crop before the waters rise this year. Modern machinery and seasonal labourers are helping to reap the crop early.

Harvester machines have sped up the harvest of the Boro paddy this year.

According to the agriculture office, 637 harvester machines and 47 reaper machines were used to harvest paddy this Boro season.

Though modern machinery is used to harvest the crop, buffalo carts can still be seen transporting the paddy from the distant parts of the Haor.

However, harvested crops are usually transported by tractor, saving both money and labour.

About 30,000 seasonal workers from different parts of the country came to Kishoreganj this year to take part in the Boro rice harvest.
