Dhaka metro rail authorities are allowing passengers to carry 250 ml of drinking water while using the mass transit service so they can break their fasts at “Iftar” during the holy Islamic month of Ramadan.

However, no other food items will be allowed, the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited, or DMTCL, said in a notice.

The notice, signed by DMTCL MRT Line-6 deputy project director (public relations) said each passenger will be allowed to carry a maximum of 250 ml drinking water for Iftar at metro rail stations and trains. However, they must be careful to ensure the water does not spill. Used water bottles must be discarded in the dustbins on platforms, concourses, or outside the entrances and exits.

Other food items cannot be consumed on the trains, platforms, and concourses under any circumstances, the notice said.

The DMTCL tweaked the train schedules during Ramadan.

According to the Ramadan schedule, the first train in the morning will leave Uttara North station at 7:10am and the last one at 9pm. Trains will depart every 10 minutes from 7:10 to 7:30am. After 7:30am, trains will depart every eight minutes until 6:50pm.

On the other end, the first train will leave Motijheel station at 7:30am and the last at 9:40pm. Trains will depart Motijheel station every 10 minutes from 7:30am to 8am. After 8:30am, trains will depart every eight minutes until 7:30pm.

The Ramadan timing will be applicable on weekdays and no changes were made to the schedule for Friday and Saturday.

The new schedule for Ramadan will continue until the day before Eid-ul-Fitr, DMTCL said.
