The Advisory Council of the interim government has approved a 10-day public holiday for Eid-ul-Azha.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, according to Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief advisor.

After the meeting, he wrote on his verified Facebook page: “There will be 10-day Eid al Adha holidays, according to a Cabinet decision. Offices will be open on Saturdays on May 17 and May 24.”

The cabinet has also approved the draft of the Cyber Protection Ordinance 2025, the press secretary said.

Bangladesh may celebrate Eid-ul-Azha on Jun 7, subject to the sighting of the moon. Jun 7 falls on Saturday and Jun 6 is a Friday, both of which fall on the weekend. If the holiday was scheduled around the Eid date, it would extend from Jun 6-8, two of which are on the weekend.

Shafiqul told bdnews24.com, “The Eid holidays were from [May] 5-10 this year. The Advisory Council added Jun 11 and 12 to it, stretching the holidays to 10 days.

“This applies only to government offices, not banks or any other workplaces. For this, offices have been kept open on two Saturdays in May.”

The eight-day break between Jun 5-12 is followed by a Friday and Saturday, which complete the 10-day holiday.
