A Dhaka court has sent two suspects linked to the case over stabbing Primeasia University student Zahidul Islam Parvez to death in jail custody pending trial.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain turned down a bail petition by the suspects and ordered them to jail on Sunday.

They are Alvi Hossain Junaid and Al Amin Sunny, both 19 years old.

Inspector AKM Moin Uddin of Banani Police Station, the investigation officer of the case, produced the two in court and requested jail custody of the two at the end of their seven-day remand.

Lawyer Zakir Hossain had applied for bail on behalf of the accused.

The accused in the case statement are Meheraz Islam, 20, Abu Zar Gifari Pias, 20, Mahathir Hasan, 20, Sobhan Niaz Tushar, 24, and Hridoy Miyaji, 23. The documents also mention Rifat, 21, Ali, 21, and Fahim, 22, all identified by single names, as accused.

However, the names of Junaid and Sunny are not in the case document.

Lawyer Zakir said: "Overall, maximum punishment should be meted out for the culprits. So that no one dares to take the law into their own hands in the future.

“The names of those involved in the murder of Parvez have been mentioned in the case statement based on a trivial incident. The names of these two accused are not in the case document. They have been arrested based on assumptions and suspicions without evidence. A bail order for them is necessary. There are no specific charges against them. They are entitled to receive the bail."

A clash broke out between students of the Department of English and the Department of Textile Engineering of Primeasia University in Banani after 4pm on Apr 19.

Parvez, a student of the Department of Textile Engineering, was stabbed to death by students of the Department of English. The deceased's cousin, Humayun Kabir, filed a case with the Banani Police Station over the incident on Apr 20.

Parvez, 24, was a third-year student in the Department of Textile Engineering at the university. He hailed from Mymensingh’s Bhaluka.
