Police have recovered the bodies of a couple from a house at Mirpur-11 and said they were murdered over an “extramarital relationship”.
A man has been arrested in connection with the murders, who claimed to have a romantic relationship with the deceased woman, according to Pallabi police.
The killings took place on Wednesday afternoon, next to the Millat Camp in Block C, police said.
The couple, identified as Pappu, 31, and his wife Dolon Dola, 29, resided in the flat as sublet tenants.
According to Pallabi police chief Shafiul Alam, the detainee, Gaus Mia, said he was in a romantic relationship with the woman.
He had previously visited the flat under the pretext of being her cousin, police said.
Saleh Muhammad Zakaria, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Pallabi Zone, said the couple was murdered due to an extramarital affair.
Their bodies were found at the scene, and the suspect has been taken into custody, he said.
According to Zakaria, around 1:30pm, another tenant in the flat reportedly saw Gaus enter the premises with a knife.
Hearing screams and sensing danger, the tenant locked the door from the outside and fled, he said.
They alerted the police, who discovered the bloodied bodies of the couple, stabbed to death. Gaus was arrested at the scene.
