A court has remanded former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s advisor Salman F Rahman, former law minister Anisul Huq and ex-inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun in three separate murder cases filed over the July mass uprising for questioning in police custody.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jamsed Alam issued the order on Wednesday after hearing the petition of the investigation officers.
The court ordered Salman and Mamun to be remanded for three days each, while Anisul was remanded for two days.
Inspector Golam Mostafa of the prosecution department of the court shared the information on the cases.
The investigation officers sought remands of different terms after presenting the suspects to the court.
A seven-day remand was sought for ex-IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun in a murder case filed with Jatrabari Police Station. Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi moved the remand petition. Lawyer Abbas Uddin, legal counsel of the former police official, petitioned for the cancellation of the remand order.
The court ordered a three-day remand after hearing both sides.
A five-day remand petition against Salman over the Monir Hossain murder case filed with the Bhatara Police Station was then heard. State counsel Omar moved the remand petition, but no lawyer represented Salman at the court.
Later, a hearing for a three-day remand petition against Anisul Huq in the Abdul Jabbar murder case filed with the Badda Police Station was held. No lawyer represented Anisul in the court. The court ordered the former law minister to be remanded for two days.
According to the documents of the case filed against Salman, Monir Hossain was injured by gunshots when he took part in the protest movement at Vatara’s Bashtola on Jul 19. He died under hospital care on Jul 20. The deceased’s brother, Parvez Forazi, filed a case on Oct 2 with the Vatara Police Station.
Anisul is accused in the murder case of Abdul Jabbar Sumon, who participated in the protest movement at Badda’s DIG Project area on Aug 5 last year. He was injured in the evening when the suspects opened fire. Doctors declared Abdul Jabbar dead when he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. His mother filed a case with the Badda Police Station on Aug 19.
The complaint against Mamun said that Md Russel participated in the protest near Jatrabari’s Kajla overhead footbridge around 10:30am on Aug 5 last year. He was subsequently shot dead.
