A man has died while undergoing treatment in Chattogram after sustaining injuries in a clash between two BNP factions over banners carrying Eid greetings.

The victim was identified as Md Jihad, 27. Police confirmed his death at a private hospital in Chattogram, early on Thursday morning.

Khulshi Police Station OC Aftab Hossain told bdnews24.com that Jihad had been shot in the leg and stabbed in the abdomen during the clash.

After receiving treatment at a private hospital for about 12 days, the BNP activist succumbed to his injuries.

On Mar 21, a clash erupted between two BNP factions in the Kusumbagh area under Chattogram’s Khulshi Thana, over the putting up of Eid greeting banners. Two individuals were shot, while two others sustained stab injuries in the incident.

Locals reported that the clash broke out between followers of Chhatra Dal leader Shariful Islam Tuhin and BNP leader Shah Alam.

Following the incident, Khulshi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mujibur Rahman was withdrawn from duty.
