A child has died after being electrocuted by an electric autorickshaw that was charging in Sherpur’s Nalitabari Upazila.

The incident occurred at North Nakshi village on Thursday, said Sohel Rana, chief of Nalitabari Police Station.

The child, Salman Farsi, was the son of Iliyas Hossain and a second-grade student at the local primary school.

Salman was playing hide-and-seek with other children in a neighbour’s house around 3:30pm.

At one point, he went to hide in one of the rooms in that house and touched an electric autorickshaw that was being charged. He suffered an electric shock and died on the spot.

“Family members found him and took him to the Sherpur Sadar Hospital, where the doctor declared him dead.”

A case of unnatural death has been filed over the incident, police said.
