Pranay Kumar Verma, the Indian high commissioner to Bangladesh, has said the killing of tourists in Pahalgam, Kashmir by militants has strengthened India’s resolve in the fight against terrorism.

Speaking at a remembrance ceremony at the Indian High Commission on Friday, he said: “These killings have shaken our collective conscience. But they have only made our resolve stronger to fight the scourge of cross-border terrorism to its end.

“It has made our determination firmer to never allow the perpetrators of these attacks and their backers to ever succeed in their designs.”

On Apr 22, militants attacked a meadow teeming with tourists in Kashmir's Pahalgam area, segregated men, asked their names and shot Hindus at close range, officials and survivors said. At least 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed.

The old rivals have taken measures against each other since the Pahalgam attack, with India putting a critical river water-sharing treaty in abeyance. Both have closed their airspace to each other's airlines.

On a Facebook post, the High Commission of India in Bangladesh wrote that it held a "solemn remembrance ceremony to pay tributes to the memory of those who lost their lives in the brutal terrorist attack” on 22 April 2025 in Pahalgam in Jammu & Kashmir, India.

Alongside Verma, Ambassador of Nepal HE Ghanshyam Bhandari paid tributes to the victims, it added.

“Members of Indian diaspora and friends of India in Bangladesh participated in large numbers and offered their condolences.”
