A BRTC bus has collided head-on with a three-wheeler passenger vehicle, locally called Mahindra, leaving three people, including a father and his son, dead and six others injured at Mymensingh’s Ishwarganj Upazila.

The accident occurred around 6pm at Datta Para of the municipality on Wednesday, said Ishwarganj police chief (OC) Obaidur Rahman.

The dead were identified as Abdus Soban, 60, and his son, Sabuj Mia from Paikura village, 32 and Kohinur Sultana, 35, from Daripachashi village.

The injured are Rafiqul Islam, 30, Abdul Gani, 50, Ramjan Ali, 23, Sabbir, 27, Shiuli, 28, and Shaheen, 20, some of whom were identified with single names.

Three of the injured were sent to Mymensingh Medical College in critical condition.

Nasirul Islam, a bystander, said the Mahindra was overtaking an autorickshaw carrying passengers from Mymensingh to Ishwarganj when it crashed into an oncoming BRTC bus.

The father and son died on the spot along with one other Mahindra passenger.

The injured were rescued and taken to Ishwarganj Upazila Health Complex.

OC Obaidur said Fire Service personnel recovered the bodies from the wreckage and sent them to the morgue.

He added that legal action would follow.
