An attack has reportedly occurred at the Jatiya Party’s Iftar gathering organised by its Dhaka North unit.

A group of people stormed the event at a restaurant in Kochukhet on Wednesday evening, just before Iftar, the party’s Secretary General Md Mujibul Haque Chunnu has alleged.

"We were attacked around 5:15pm during our event. Army personnel arrived shortly after and drove the attackers away. We then proceeded with Iftar,” he told bdnews24.com.

Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader was also present at the event.

Videos shared on Facebook by the party’s Joint Secretary General and Chairman’s Press Secretary Khandaker Deloar Jalali showed a group of youths attacking people on the road with sticks.

When contacted, Kafrul Police Station chief Abdullah Al Mamun, and Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner of Mirpur Division Mohammad Maksudur Rahman, did not respond to multiple calls.

After the incident, Quader reacted in a Facebook video, highlighting the severe deterioration of law and order.

Earlier, on Mar 8, an attack was alleged during the Jatiya Party’s Dhaka North Iftar gathering in Pallabi.
