4 of a family die as bus rams autorickshaw in Mymensingh

Four members of a family have been killed on their way home for Eid after their autorickshaw was rammed by a bus in Mymensingh’s Gouripur Upazila.

The accident occurred in the Chandrapara area of the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj Highway around 6am on Sunday, according to Mirza Mazharul Anwar, chief of Gouripur Police Station.

The dead were identified as Kulsuma Begum, 95, her daughter Dilruba, 40, and Dilruba's daughters Riti, 14, and Priti, 7.

Dilruba’s daughter Mahi, 16, and niece Shyamoli, 20, have been admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital with injuries from the accident.

The victims live in a rented flat in Mymensingh’s Natok Ghar Lane, OC Anwar said, citing locals. They had been on their way to their ancestral home by autorickshaw for the Eid holidays.

“A Gouripur-bound bus rammed the autorickshaw from behind in the Chandrapara area of the highway around dawn. Three people were killed on the spot and three others injured.”

One of the injured then died on the way to Mymensingh Medical.

OC Anwar said law enforcers are attempting to arrest the bus driver over the accident.
