Actor Somu Chowdhury has been found in a “disoriented state” beside a shrine in Mymensingh’s Gafargaon.
Police from their Pagla Station rescued him on Thursday afternoon after spotting a photo on Facebook showing him lying beside the Mukhi Shah Miskin shrine.
Sub-Inspector Shah told bdnews24.com: “After your phone call informed me of the matter, we checked and found it to be true.
“Police have gone to the scene. More details will be available later.”
According to police, a local youth, identified with a single name Mamun, first took a photo of the veteran actor and posted it on Facebook, which drew attention online.
In the photo, Somu is seen lying on a mat under a gab tree near the shrine, wearing only a gamchha, or towel.
A water bottle is placed beside him, along with a fabric doll near his head.
Pagla Police Station chief (OC) Ferdous Alam said, “Police found him in a distressed condition at the spot. We requested him multiple times to come to the station, but he refused.
“His colleagues and family in Dhaka have been informed and are on their way,” he added. “They plan to take him from the shrine directly back to Dhaka.”
The OC noted that it is still unknown when or how the actor arrived at the location.
Rashed Mamun Apu, general secretary of the Actors’ Equity Bangladesh, told Glitz: “We saw the photo online and sent local contacts to verify. Once confirmed, we coordinated with police and a special team reached the site.
“Our own team is also on the way. His [Somu’s] physical and mental condition is poor. We’ll bring him to Dhaka and arrange immediate treatment.”
Asked about family contact, Rashed said: “He only has an elderly mother. We haven’t been able to reach her.
“His [Somu’s] home is in Khulna, but how he ended up there is still unknown.”
