A man and his son have died after the bus they were travelling on veered out of control and slammed into a mosque in Mymensingh's Tarakanda.

Fifteen others were injured in the accident that occurred around 7am on Friday at Taldighi area on Mymensingh-Haluaghat Road, according to Tarakanda Police Station chief Mohammed Tipu Sultan.

The dead were identified as Md Parvez Mia, 40, and his son Hasan Mia, 8. They lived in Siddhirganj's Sanarpara in Narayanganj. Parvez was travelling to his in-laws' house in Haluaghat with his family to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha.

According to police, the Tisha Paribahan bus was travelling to Haluaghat from Narayanganj. Parvez, his wife and their son, along with a few of his in-laws, were onboard.

The driver lost control of the bus as it reached West Taldighi area around 7am, and hit Fakirbari Masjid. The end part of the bus was severely damaged on impact. Parvez and his son died on the spot.

The injured were sent to the Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

OC Tipu Sultan said Parvez's wife and other family members were among the injured.

"The bodies have been brought to the police station and the bus was seized."
