Biman Bangladesh Airlines, the flag carrier of Bangladesh, has started to scrutinise the Boeing-787 series planes in its fleet after the fatal Air India crash in India’s Ahmedabad.
The probe into the Air India Boeing-787-8 Dreamliner crash and its causes is still ongoing, Biman said in a press statement on Tuesday.
As part of cautionary measures, the engineering department of Biman started to run necessary tests on important system in all Boeing-787 Dreamliner planes, including the engine fuel system, electronic engine control, electrical power, hydraulic system, air conditioning, flight control system, and power assurance check of engines.
After the probe, Biman’s engineering department is ready to implement whatever maintenance directives manufacturer Boeing gives immediately, the statement said.
Currently, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has a total of six Boeing-787 Dreamliner aircraft in its fleet.
Of these, four are Boeing-787-8 and two are Boeing-787-9 models, which fly to different international destinations.
The engineering department follows an aircraft maintenance programme to ensure maintenance of these aircraft. This programme clearly mentions each maintenance task, scheduled time and procedure.
It has been prepared in accordance with the instructions of Boeing's maintenance planning document, type certificate holder and regulatory requirements and has been approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), the statement said.
It also said that those scheduled maintenance activities are carried out at regular intervals under the supervision of one or more type-rated engineers, following the maintenance manual prepared by Boeing.
After each task is completed, the responsible engineer signs the task card and it is later verified by the quality assurance authority and stored in the maintenance planning wing.
In addition, the maintenance control centre and central engineering wing continue real time monitoring of the status of each aircraft through the aircraft health management and engine health management systems.
Hence, precautionary alerts are received before a problem occurs and preventive maintenance plans are planned accordingly and necessary measures are taken, the statement said.
